The
Association has membership strength of about 35,000. This figure is
however, fast depleting owing to the following factors; brain drain, the
on-going reform in the Health sector characterized by down-sizing/right
sizing, government policy of ban on employment, non-existent policy on
replacement of retired and dead nurses, death of nurses owing to
professional hazards such as HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, malaria and
tuberculosis. These conditions are preventive, but due to non-existent
policy on staff vaccination and post exposure prophylaxis, the figure is
becoming alarming.
Membership is open to all Nurses and Midwives registered with the nursing
and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, employed in the services of the Federal,
State, Local Government and/or any other Institution/Establishment whether
private or public.
Validity
of membership is dependent on regular payment of annual/monthly
subscription, levies, loyalty to the Association and good behaviour.
